The Apps I Use

I use a lot of apps in my AOMi entries. Even if I use an app only once in the project I list it here for others to try out if they like the sound of it.

To see the apps themselves on the iTunes store there's a list on the right hand side of the site called 'The Apps' where I've listed them alphabetically for you.

If you want to see all the AOMi entries that a particular app has been used in look over to the left where there is a list called 'Labels'. It's alphabetical as well and you just have to click on the app name to get all the entries.

Photo Editing:

My favourite apps at the moment for photo editing are Camera+ and Snapseed. They both provide powerful editing capabilities but Camera+'s camera is a bonus. Snapseed is easier to use for editing but Camera+ is not hard either; just less intuitive at times. Another favourite of mine is PhotoWizard. The masking tools are powerful and easy to use. It has an extensive FX gallery and some of my favourite pieces have been created in this app. I do a lot of photo editing and if I didn't have Snapseed this would probably be the first editor I open whenever I want to play with a shot.

Drawing/Painting:

For drawing I think that SketchBook Mobile is hard to beat. There are more expensive apps out there that do basically the same things. I also really enjoy TypeDrawing, which is drawing with fonts; a very unique way to achieve neat pieces. Zen Brush is an odd one in that it's a pretty simple drawing tool but the quality is great and it has a bunch of papers for you to draw on. I actually do find the experience of drawing with it makes me try to focus on simple lines and calm subjects.

Miscellaneous Apps:

When it comes to single-purpose apps for filtering photos with effects I have two favourites. My first (and most used) is Corel's Paint It! Now. Whenever I have a poorly focused photo one of these filters usually gives me something I can work with. It combines well with other apps when I'm making something very involved. My other favourite is WordFoto, which takes your photo or drawing and creates an enormous typographic picture from it. It's a great way to add a new meaning or message to something.
